Chase Edge Pro BMX Bike Review: Ready For Serious Racing?

chase edge pro bmx bike review

The Chase Edge Pro is for riders who want a proper BMX race bike without jumping straight to the higher price of the Element Pro.

Yup, Chase gives you a lot for the price!

The Edge Pro uses a triple-butted, hydroformed 6061-T6 aluminum frame, Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, 2-piece alloy cranks, sealed hubs, double-wall rims, and an integrated chain tensioner system.

Chase also offers it with either a chromoly fork or an Ikon carbon fork, which gives you a nice upgrade path right from the start.

Friendly Reminder: BIG BMX SALE At Dan’s Comp — Save Up To 57% & More! (Click Above ⬆️)

It is also available in Pro, Pro XL, and Pro XXL, so adult racers get three useful top tube lengths instead of being forced into one generic size.

That makes the Edge Pro interesting because it sits in a sweet spot.

It is clearly more serious than a basic entry-level race bike, but it does not try to compete with the more premium Element Pro spec.

So the big question is simple:

Is the Chase Edge Pro good enough for serious BMX racing, or will you quickly wish you had spent more?

That is exactly what I want to figure out in this review.

This post covers:

Chase Edge Pro BMX Bike Review

1. Chase Edge Pro BMX Features That Stand Out

chase edge pro bmx bike best features

Here are the features that stand out most for me:

  • Triple-butted, hydroformed 6061-T6 aluminum frame: This gives the Edge Pro a proper race-bike foundation, not just an entry-level alloy frame.
  • Enclosed rear dropouts: Chase uses an enclosed dropout design around the disc-brake area, which adds strength where it matters.
  • Integrated chain tensioners: A nice race-specific detail that helps with rear wheel alignment and chain adjustment.
  • 2-piece alloy cranks with a 24mm spindle: A much better setup than basic 3-piece cranks you often see on cheaper race completes.
  • Shimano hydraulic disc brake: The Edge Pro uses Shimano MT200 hydraulic braking with a 140mm rotor.
  • Double-wall rims: Exactly what I want to see on a race bike that is meant to be ridden hard and raced regularly.
  • Sealed-bearing hubs: Better protection and lower maintenance than loose-ball hubs.
  • Race-focused rear hub: Chase uses a cassette hub with three pawls and a triple-angle engagement system on a 24-tooth ratchet.
  • Chromoly or carbon fork options: The standard version comes with a full chromoly Chase fork, while the upgraded version uses an Ikon Pro carbon fork.
  • Vee Rubber Speedster tires: The Pro size uses a wider front tire and narrower rear tire, which fits the usual BMX race setup.

What I like most is that the Edge Pro DOES NOT FEEL stripped down just because it is the cheaper Chase option.

You still get the core parts I would want on a proper BMX race bike: a solid frame, hydraulic disc brake, sealed hubs, double-wall rims, 2-piece cranks, and a real carbon-fork upgrade option.

3. Chase Edge Pro Geometry & Size Guide

chase edge pro bmx bike geometry and sizing

This is where choosing the right Chase Edge Pro size gets much easier.

The Pro, Pro XL, and Pro XXL share the same 74° head tube angle and 72° seat tube angle, so the overall race position stays consistent.

Friendly Reminder: BIG BMX SALE At Dan’s Comp — Save Up To 57% & More! (Click Above ⬆️)

What really changes is the amount of room you get through the top tube, rear end, bottom bracket height, and overall wheelbase.

Geometry Pro Pro XL Pro XXL
Top tube 20.5″ 21.0″ 21.5″
Min. chainstay 14″ 14.15″ 14.15″
Head tube angle 74° 74° 74°
Seat tube angle 72° 72° 72°
Head tube length 4.7″ 4.7″ 4.7″
Seat tube length 9.3″ 9.3″ 9.3″
BB height 11″ 11.5″ 11.5″
Wheelbase 36.9″ 37.21″ 38.16″
Rider height 4’11.8″–5’5.4″ 5’4.6″–5’10.1″ 5’8.9″–6’1.6″

Which Chase Edge Pro Size Should You Get?

Chase’s official height recommendations are a very useful starting point, but notice how much the ranges overlap.

For example, a rider around 5’9″ falls within both the Pro XL and Pro XXL ranges.

That is why I would not choose by height alone.

If you already race BMX, your current top tube length and how that bike fits you are extremely useful references.

A rider who likes a compact 21″ setup may be happier on the Pro XL, while someone at the same height who prefers more room may feel better on the 21.5″ XXL.

In short:

  • Pro: 20.5″ — Chase recommends 4’11.8″–5’5.4″.
  • Pro XL: 21″ — Chase recommends 5’4.6″–5’10.1″.
  • Pro XXL: 21.5″ — Chase recommends 5’8.9″–6’1.6″.

If you are right between two sizes, pay close attention to the top tube and wheelbase, because that’s where the differences show up most.

4. Is The Chase Edge Pro Good For Serious BMX Racing?

Yes!

The Chase Edge Pro is a proper race bike, not just something that looks the part.

Edge is a race-ready BMX bike for riders who want to get serious and take their riding to the next level.

The frame uses butted, hydroformed aluminum, and the bike gets race-focused parts like hydraulic disc brakes, 2-piece cranks, double-wall rims, sealed hubs, and a cassette rear hub with Chase’s triple-pawl engagement system.

That already puts it well above a basic entry-level race bike.

What I like most is that the IMPORTANT STUFF is there from the start.

You are not buying a bike that immediately needs a stronger wheelset, better brakes, or a proper crankset just to feel ready for regular racing.

The Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brake is a good example.

It gives the Pro sizes a modern braking setup, while the enclosed rear dropout and integrated chain tensioner system are clearly designed with actual BMX racing in mind.

The same goes for the wheels.

Chase equips the Pro with double-wall rims and sealed-bearing hubs, while the rear cassette uses a 3-pawl system with triple-angle engagement on a 24-tooth ratchet.

That is exactly the kind of detail I want on a bike that will be sprinted hard out of the gate and pushed through regular race sessions.

In short, the Edge Pro gives you a genuinely race-focused platform without forcing you into the higher price of the Element Pro.

The Edge Pro is built for progressing racers and riders getting more serious on the track.

5. Chase Edge Pro Chromoly Fork Vs Carbon Fork Version

chase edge pro chromoly vs carbon fork

One of the best things about the Chase Edge Pro is that you can choose between a full chromoly fork and an Ikon Pro carbon fork.

The rest of the bike stays on the same Edge Pro platform, so the fork is the main decision.

Chromoly Fork Version

The standard Edge Pro uses the Chase Edge full chromoly fork with a 1-1/8″ steerer and tapered blades.

This is the version I would look at if you want to keep the price lower and simply get a solid race bike without paying extra for carbon.

It is also the easier choice if you are newer to racing and are not yet chasing every possible weight saving.

Carbon Fork Version

The upgraded version uses an Ikon Pro carbon fork with a 1-1/8″ alloy steerer.

The biggest reason to choose it is simple: you get the higher-end fork straight from the start instead of upgrading later.

I would especially look at the carbon version if you already know you are serious about racing and want the better fork from day one.

Note: If you want to see how the Ikon compares with other options, check out my favorite carbon BMX race forks.

So, Which Version Should You Get?

For most riders, I would break it down like this:

  • Go chromoly if you want the more affordable Edge Pro and would rather spend less up front.
  • Go carbon if you already know you want the premium fork and do not want to replace it later.
  • Newer racer? The chromoly version is already a proper race setup.
  • More committed racer? The carbon version is the more attractive long-term buy.

I would not overcomplicate this decision.

The chromoly version gives you the value, while the carbon version gives you the more premium front end.

6. Chase Edge Pro Vs Chase Element Pro (Compared)

chase edge pro vs chase element pro bikes

The Edge Pro is the cheaper option, while the Chase Element Pro sits above it with a more premium frame and parts package.

But that does not automatically mean everyone should spend more on the Element.

Feature Chase Edge Pro Chase Element Pro
Frame material Hydroformed 6061-T6 alloy 7005-T6 alloy
Fork Full chromoly or optional Ikon carbon Ikon Pro tapered carbon
Head tube 1-1/8″ Tapered 1-1/8″–1.5″
Handlebar clamp 22.2mm 31.8mm
Cranks Chase 2-piece alloy Insight PL4 Pro 2-piece alloy
Crank length 170mm Pro; 175mm XL/XXL 175mm Pro/XL/XXL
Bottom bracket External BSA 24mm BB86 press-fit
Rims Chase Edge double-wall alloy Chase Element double-wall alloy
Tires Vee Rubber Speedster Tioga Fastr X
Brake Shimano hydraulic, 140mm rotor Shimano hydraulic, 120mm rotor
Sizes Pro, XL, XXL Pro, XL, XXL, XXXL

The frame is one of the biggest upgrades.

The Edge uses a hydroformed, triple-butted 6061-T6 aluminum frame, while the Element steps up to 7005-T6 alloy and uses the same geometry platform found on Championship-winning ACT and RSP frames.

The Element also gets a tapered head tube rather than the straight 1-1/8″ setup on the Edge.

Then there is the fork.

The standard Edge Pro comes with a full chromoly fork, although Chase also offers an Ikon carbon-fork version.

The Element Pro comes with the Ikon Pro tapered carbon fork as standard, so you are already getting the premium front-end setup without choosing an upgraded version.

The cockpit is another noticeable step up.

The Edge uses a traditional 22.2mm handlebar clamp, while the Element gets Chase’s larger 31.8mm handlebar and stem system.

Chase also scales the Element cockpit as the sizes increase, with the XL and XXL using longer 53mm stems.

Cranks are different too.

The Edge Pro uses Chase’s own 2-piece alloy crankset.

Interestingly, Chase fits the regular Pro with 170mm cranks, then moves to 175mm on the XL and XXL. I actually like that sizing approach.

The Element uses Insight PL4 Pro 2-piece cranks, but keeps them at 175mm across the Pro sizes.

Note: If cranks are one of the parts you may upgrade later, see my best BMX race cranks guide.

You also get better stock tires on the Element.

Chase equips it with Tioga Fastr X tires, while the Edge uses Vee Rubber Speedsters.

Neither setup stops you from racing, but the Element clearly gets the more premium parts package straight out of the box.

7. Who Is The Chase Edge Pro BMX Bike Best For?

  • Newer racers moving beyond entry-level bikes: The Edge Pro gives you a great alloy frame, hydraulic disc brake, sealed hubs, double-wall rims, and 2-piece cranks, so you are starting much more seriously.
  • Riders who want to race regularly: This bike doesn’t need obvious upgrades before you can line up at the gate and use it properly.
  • Progressing racers: If you are getting faster and spending more time at the track, the Edge Pro gives you the right platform to keep improving on.
  • Budget-conscious racers: The big appeal is value. You get a race-focused complete without spending a lot.
  • Riders who like upgrading gradually: The standard chromoly-fork version leaves room to upgrade later, while the carbon-fork version gives you a stronger starting point if you already know you want that setup.
  • Adult racers choosing between Pro sizes: With Pro, Pro XL, and Pro XXL options, you get enough range to find a much better fit than a one-size-fits-all complete.
  • Riders who want a race bike, not a race-looking bike: The Edge Pro has real race-specific details like enclosed dropouts, integrated chain tensioners, hydraulic braking, and proper BMX race geometry.

8. Chase Edge Pro BMX Pros

  • Proper race-focused frame: It gives the Edge Pro a solid foundation for regular BMX racing and beyond.
  • Hydraulic disc brake: The Shimano MT200 setup is a strong feature at this price point.
  • 2-piece alloy cranks: A much better starting point than the more basic cranksets found on cheaper completes.
  • Sealed-bearing hubs: Less maintenance and a more durable setup.
  • Double-wall rims: Exactly what you want on a race bike that will take repeated gate starts, landings, and track abuse.
  • Integrated chain tensioners: A small detail, but a very useful one for keeping rear wheel alignment and chain tension tidy.
  • Three Pro sizes available: Pro, Pro XL, and Pro XXL give you a much better chance of finding the right fit.
  • Size-specific cockpit and crank changes: Chase adjusts bar rise and crank length between sizes instead of using the same across the board.
  • Carbon fork option available: You can keep the price lower with the chromoly fork or go straight for the Ikon carbon version.
  • Good value compared with the Element Pro: You still get the important race-ready parts without paying for the more premium Element package.
  • Room to upgrade later: The Edge Pro is strong enough to race as-is, but it also leaves a clear path for future upgrades if you start chasing lighter or higher-end parts.

9. Chase Edge Pro BMX Cons

  • Lower-spec than the Element Pro: The Edge saves money by using more basic parts in areas like the fork, cockpit, crankset, and tires.
  • 22.2mm cockpit on the Edge: The Element steps up to a larger 31.8mm setup, so riders who want the more premium front end will notice the difference.
  • Vee Rubber Speedster tires are more basic: They are perfectly usable for racing, but the Element Pro gets the more premium Tioga Fastr X tires.
  • The Pro uses a shorter 170mm crank: I actually like that for the smaller size, but riders who strongly prefer 175mm cranks should know this before buying.
  • Upgrades can quickly close the price gap: If you start replacing the fork, cockpit, tires, and crankset, you may eventually spend enough that the Element Pro would have been the better buy from day one.

Conclusion: Is The Chase Edge Pro Worth It?

is chase edge pro bmx bike worth it

Yes, for the right rider, the Chase Edge Pro is absolutely worth considering.

Its biggest strength is value.

You get an amazing parts package at an amazing price.

I also like that Chase gives you two clear ways to buy it.

Go with the chromoly fork version if you want to keep the price lower.

Or choose the carbon fork version if you want the lighter, more premium front end from day one.

The Edge Pro is not trying to be the Element Pro.

And honestly, that is a GOOD thing.

The Element is the better choice if you want a more premium frame platform, a tapered carbon fork, a 31.8mm cockpit, higher-end cranks, and better stock tires straight away.

But if you want a race-ready BMX without paying for all of that immediately, the Edge Pro hits a really useful middle ground.

For newer racers, progressing riders, and anyone who wants to race regularly without overspending, I think the Chase Edge Pro is one of the more sensible options in the Chase lineup.

Buy the right size, pick the fork version that fits your budget, and you have a bike that should let you focus on the part that matters most:

GETTING FASTER.
