4 Best 2.1″ BMX Tires (2024)

2.1 bmx tires

Are you searching for the best 2.1″ BMX tires?

The right tire can make a huge difference in how your bike handles, grips, and rolls – especially if you choose a 2.1″ tire.

While thinner tires are ideal for speed, so racers and park riders prefer it, many street and trails riders also love them.

Heck, I rode a 2.1″ tire for many years before switching to a wider one.

In this article, I’m breaking down some of the best 2.1″ BMX tires on the market.

So, if you’re thinking about upgrading your tires or just curious to see what’s available, let’s explore some of the top choices.

Note: Because of the popularity of fat tires, there aren’t that many thin ones, but the ones below rock!

This post covers:

Best 2.1″ BMX Tires

1. Animal GLH Tire

animal glh
If you’re into BMX, you must try the Animal Bikes GLH tire. Period.

(At least once! But chances are, once you go GLH, you’ll never want to try any other tire.)

It’s got this killer Animal tread pattern that grips like a dream and holds up during grinds, thanks to extra knurling on the sides.

Even though it’s 26.9 oz (a bit heavy), it’s totally worth it.

The dual-ply casing makes it crazy durable, and I’ve been running these for years with no complaints.

Animal got the rubber formula spot-on from the start, and trust me, this tire is long-lasting and just an all-around beast.

  • Weight: 26.9oz (762g)
  • Max pressure: 110 PSI
  • Price: $31.99 (may vary)

2. Odyssey Super Circuit K-Lyte Tire

The Odyssey Super Circuit K-Lyte tire is insanely light and perfect for serious park or race sessions.

The tread is super slick in the middle for fast rolling, but those micro-knurled side blocks give you superb grip when hitting corners or carving transitions.

It’s got a Kevlar bead and K-Lyte casing, making it lightweight yet strong enough for high pressures (up to 100 PSI).

I love how reliable it feels, and the reduced weight makes a huge difference.

If you want speed and grip, this tire’s a game-changer.

  • Weight: 15.5oz (439g)
  • Max pressure: 100 PSI
  • Price: $47.99 (may vary)

3. Maxxis Grifter Street Tire

The Maxxis Grifter tire is a popular freestyle option for one good reason – it works!

This thing rolls fast, which helps keep your momentum going strong, and the high-volume casing is a total lifesaver for softer landings.

This tire is perfect for everything from flat and street to park and vert. (Even trail riders enjoy it!)

The single compound keeps rolling resistance low but is tough enough to last long.

Plus, it handles up to 110 PSI and weighs 17.3oz, so it’s solid but doesn’t feel bulky.

If you want a reliable tire that’s smooth and grippy, the Grifter is a must!

  • Weight: 17.3oz (490g)
  • Max pressure: 110 PSI
  • Price: $39.00 (may vary)

4. Haro Catapult Tire

The Haro Catapult tire is affordable and works great for dirt and street riding.

(But for street, I’d ride this one in the front and a slicker one in the back.)

The chevron-shaped tread is gnarly and grips well, so you feel solid hitting different terrains.

It’s light at just 20.4 oz and holds up to 40 psi, perfect for a smoother ride.

However, as mentioned earlier, this tire works best with wider rims, like 36mm or even wider (38-40mm).

Seriously, if you’re looking for a versatile tire that won’t break the bank but still delivers on performance, this one’s a winner.

  • Weight: 20.4oz (578g)
  • Max pressure: 40 PSI
  • Price: $16.99 (may vary)

How To Make Your 2.1″ BMX Tires Last Longer

1. Keep Your Tire Pressure In Check

One of the easiest ways to extend the life of your 2.1″ BMX tires is to monitor tire pressure.

Riding with low pressure might feel smoother, but it increases the risk of pinch flats and wears down the sidewalls faster. (If you want to ride lower PSI, I recommend getting wider rims.)

On the flip side, over-inflating can lead to a bouncy ride and put unnecessary stress on the tire.

Check the recommended PSI on the tire and keep it in that range.

Personally, I like to check mine after a few sessions to ensure it’s where it should be.

2. Rotate Your Tires

This little tip can help: swap your front and rear tires every couple of months. (Or more often if you ride a lot.)

The rear tire usually wears out faster because it takes more impact and weight, especially when landing tricks.

Rotating them will balance out the wear and keep both tires in better shape longer.

3. Avoid Skidding

I know skids look cool, but they chew through your tires like crazy. (Avoid skidding too much, especially on rough pavement.)

It’s one of the biggest reasons tires wear out way too soon.

If you need to stop quickly, learn to feather your brakes instead.

4. Watch Where You Ride

Riding on rough terrain, sharp rocks, or glass-covered streets can put your tires through much stress.

If the ground is sketchy, I stop and carry my bike over it because I don’t want to ruin my tires.

If you’re sessioning street spots, scan for anything sharp that could cause cuts or punctures.

Also, hitting smooth surfaces (like skateparks) will make your tires last longer.

5. Keep Them Clean

I know it’s tempting to ignore dirty tires, but cleaning them every so often really helps.

Dirt and grime can weaken the rubber over time.

A quick rinse or wiping down the sidewalls and tread with a wet cloth can go a long way.

Plus, you’ll have a cleaner ride, which is always a bonus.

When inspecting the tire, you might also find many tiny pieces of glass in it, which I recommend removing.

6. Store Your Bike Properly

Leaving your bike out in the sun or harsh weather can speed up the aging process of your tires.

If you can, store your BMX bike indoors.

Extreme temperatures (cold and hot) and UV rays are no friends to your tires, trust me.

And when you’re not riding for longer periods, deflate the tires slightly – particularly if you ride at high PSI.

7. Invest In Quality Tires

Finally, starting with high-quality tires will give you a head start.

They might be pricier, but they’re usually made to handle more abuse and last longer.

Especially if you follow all these tips!

A good investment now means you won’t have to replace them as often.
