If you travel with your BMX bike, even just once or twice a year, investing in the Odyssey Traveler Pro bike bag is one of the smartest moves you can make.
I still remember when I first flew to Barcelona and used some low-quality hockey bag – it didn’t end up well.
However, my bike and I still arrived to Barcelona, and that was key, lol.
I hope I had this bag back then!
The Odyssey Traveler Pro bike bag isn’t just a padded duffel.
It’s a purpose-built, rider-tested, airport-proof bag designed to keep your rig safe while making your travel experience WAY less stressful.
Co-developed with BMX legend Gary Young, the Traveler Pro bag brings serious real-world insight into its design.
Thanks, Gary!
From the retractable handle and reinforced corners to the smooth-rolling wheels and internal pockets, this bag is clearly built by someone who knows the chaos of airline travel.
And that sure is Gary.
Whether you’re flying to a jam, filming trip, or BMX vacation, the Traveler Pro has your back (and your bike).
Odyssey Traveler Pro Bike Bag Review
1. Key Features Of The Odyssey Traveler Pro
This isn’t just a cosmetic update to the old Traveler bag — the Pro version is fully re-engineered for the ultimate performance:
- Retractable handle for easy rolling like your favorite carry-on
- Heavy-duty YKK zippers that won’t blow out mid-trip, which is the worst thing that can happen
- Improved wheels that roll smoother over rough surfaces (I really like that the wheels are also pretty large, so you have to worry about nothing)
- More internal padding for the frame and part protection
- Extra handles to help with awkward lifting
- Reinforced seams, corners, shoulder pads, and strap keepers for long-term durability (if you take care of the bag, you’ll keep using it year after year)
- Interior pockets and a stealth cover to keep things organized and discreet
- An interior divider to keep clean and dirty items separate
- Bike-specific strap locations to lock everything in place (I still recommend using a few zip ties to completely avoid the annoying clunking – hey, you don’t want to reveal the airport that you have a bike in there)
- Multiple tie-downs and straps inside for added security
Basically, everything that used to be good is now better – and tougher.

- Length: 34.5″ (87.63 cm)
- Width: 16″ (40.64 cm)
- Height: 12″ (30.48 cm)
This is a solid, airline-friendly size that fits modern 20″ freestyle BMX bikes – of course, with some disassembly.
Usually, you’ll remove the wheels, pedals, bars, and maybe the seat (but slamming it might be enough).
I find this packing method the most straightforward:
- Front wheel under the front triangle
- Rear wheel on top of the front frame triangle
- Use a cut bottle or foam over axle ends and dropouts for additional protection
And that’s it, you’re all set and ready to travel with your BMX bike like a champ.
Pro tip: Add some zip ties or even a lock, and you’re golden.
I also stuff it with socks and underwear (even shirts) to fill the empty spaces, which keeps the bike safer. They can also help eliminate the clunking sound and keep your parts from rubbing against each other.
It can happen that your bike and parts damage during travel, so you want to reduce the possibility of stracthces and dents to the absolute minimum.
Note: Before packing your bike, I recommend you clean it first so your clothing won’t get dirty.

There’s nothing worse than arriving at your destination only to find your axle has ripped through your bag — or worse, your frame got dinged.
That’s why Odyssey went hard on reinforcements in high-stress zones.
The base, sides, and handles are all heavily stitched, and the new wheel/handle setup rolls like butter.
This bag can take a beating in baggage claim and keep rolling.
However, as I mentioned earlier, I still recommend you use some of your clothing and accessories to further protect your bike.
Instead of carrying in a separate bag, include a few T-shirts, socks and even underwear in the bike bag to prevent damage.
We all know that folks at airports don’t handle our gear with too much care, so it’s on us to protect our stuff.
4. Real Rider Feedback
- Alex T.: “Used this for 3 trips already and it’s held up great. The handle and wheels make all the difference in big airports.”
- Jake M.: “Love the clean look. Way more protection inside than I expected. Definitely a big upgrade from the older Traveler.”
- Luis R.: “No more busted duffel bags. This thing is serious. The compartments are well thought out, too.”
- Tyrone F.: “Fits my bike easily. Just remove a few parts and it slides right in. The retractable handle is a game changer.”
- Erik S.: “It’s pricey but worth every dollar. I travel for work and BMX, and this is the first bag that feels like it was made by BMX riders, for BMX riders.”
5. Potential Downsides Of The Odyssey Traveler Pro Bike Bag
- Pricey: At $319.99, it’s definitely not a budget item. But you’re paying for peace of mind and long-term durability.
- Not the lightest: It’s expected that a bike bag like this won’t be super light because it needs to offer some protection. Combined with your bike weight and any additional tools and extra parts, it can easily get pretty heavy. But even if you need to pay for a few extra pounds, it won’t be as pricey as paying airline fees for the bike.
Conclusion: Is Odyssey Traveler Pro Bike Bag Worth It?
The Odyssey Traveler Pro isn’t just a travel bag – it’s a BMX-specific hauler built for riders who want their gear to arrive safe, sound, and ready to shred.
It’s not cheap, but it is reliable, stylish, and super functional.
If you’re serious about traveling with your BMX, this bag pays for itself in protection and peace of mind.
I highly recommend it for frequent flyers, contest riders, or anyone who’s tired of DIY packing solutions that aren’t cutting it.
Heck, even if you travel with your bike only once or twice a year, you’ll thank yourself that you invested in the Odyssey Traveler Pro bike bag.
Travel like a pro. Ride like a savage.
