Oh, dude, the S&M Hoder grips are something else!
If you’re looking for grips that offer maximum comfort, longevity and thicker diameter, Mike Hoder’s signature BMX grips are meant for you.
Or are they? Let’s find out!
Made in the USA by ODI, these grips utilize their Super Soft compound, ensuring a comfortable and tacky feel while riding.
What makes these grips stand out is their thicker diameter (31.5mm), which provides extra cushioning and control.
Whether you’re into barspins, big drops, or long sessions at the park, these grips help absorb impact and reduce hand fatigue.

1. First Impressions
The S&M Hoder grips feel substantial and grippy right out of the box.
The wave-style ribbed pattern gives them a classic BMX look and provides a perfect balance of softness and durability.
Plus, the pattern and the soft compound works really well for sweating hands.
Having ridden these grips for over a year, I can confidently say that the thicker diameter is a huge plus.
They just feel more secure in hand, offering better control when throwing barspins or hitting a rough landing.
However, one thing to note is that they can feel a bit sticky, similar to the ODI Longneck grips.
Some riders love this extra tackiness, while others may find it unnecessary.
I’m not a fan, so that’s why I went back to my favorite Animal Edwin grips.
2. S&M Hoder Grips Key Features
- Wave-style ribbed grip area: Ensures a comfortable, controlled feel.
- Super Soft compound by ODI: Maximizes comfort and reduces hand fatigue.
- Thicker diameter (31.5mm): Adds extra cushioning and grip stability.
- Molded S&M logos: A signature detail – but I like the “BLESS THIS MESS” writen on the sides even more.
- Nylon plug-style bar ends included: Provides durability and bar protection.
- Available in multiple colors: Choose from black, cyan blue, red, purple, clear, and more – something for everyone!
By the way, you’ll love the packaging, too! But I don’t want to ruin it for you – let it be a nice surprise for you.
3. How S&M Hoder Grips Ride
The S&M Hoder Grips perform exceptionally well in all riding conditions.
Whether you’re gripping hard for tricks and spins or just cruising, the soft compound keeps your hands feeling fresh.
The extra-thick feel makes a noticeable difference for riders who prefer a beefier grip (like I do!)
While some grips feel too thin and can cause hand fatigue, Hoder grips provide a solid platform for control and better wrist positioning.
However, the tackiness can be a double-edged sword.
It helps maintain a firm grip but might be too sticky for riders who prefer a smoother feel.
