The S&M Mainline tire is built with trail riders in mind, but it also performs well on concrete surfaces.
Recognized for its strong construction and reliable traction, this BMX tire is an excellent option for riders seeking confidence and stability across different terrains.
S&M offers the Mainline in two sizes:
- The 2.20” version features a micro-knurled directional tread pattern with a V-notched edge for acceleration and a flat edge for braking.
- The 2.40” version includes raised angular lugs, which provide more corner traction and control, especially on dirt trails.
Available in 20” and 22” sizes, this tire is versatile and built to last.

1. Design & Build Quality
The S&M Mainline tire is designed for high-pressure durability with a wire bead construction that ensures a strong, sturdy feel.
Note: I don’t recommend riding this tire at (super) low PSI, although I’ve seen rides who run it low with no issues.
The mid-weight casing makes it tough enough to handle aggressive riding while keeping it from feeling too sluggish.
Its tread design is optimized for trail riding, but the high-pressure rating (110 PSI) allows it to roll smoothly on streets and parks as well.
Many riders run the 2.40″ Mainline in the front and S&M Speedball tire in the back for a more old-school look.
The Mainline is an excellent option for a tire that can transition between different terrains without a hitch.
2. S&M Mainline Tire Key Features
- Designed for trails and all-around riding: Works great on dirt and concrete, although most of the dudes use it for trail shredding.
- Durable wire bead construction: Offers strength and longevity, so the tire will likely last you a long time (but it all depends on your riding style).
- Directional tread pattern: Provides better acceleration and braking control.
- Available in 20” and 22” sizes: Fits a variety of BMX setups.
- Max pressure: 110 PSI: Ensures a firm and responsive ride.
3. How S&M Mainline Tire Rides
The S&M Mainline tire is known for its stability and traction.
While it’s most popular among trail riders, there are also many street fans who run it in the front.
The 2.20” size works great for both front and rear setups, while the 2.40” is designed mainly as a front tire but can be used in the rear if your frame allows it (most modern frames do).
Some riders note that the thicker tread helps prevent flats, making it a great option for those who ride in areas with rough terrain.
But I don’t recommend riding it in the back if you primarily ride street and do a lot of grinds.
Some of the pros that ride S&M Mainline tire: Mike Hoder and Charlie Crumlish.
4. Real Rider Feedback
- “I run a 2.4 on both front and rear at 90 PSI—it’s a thick tire, and I rarely get flats.” – James R.
- “Mainlines are awesome. I’ve only had one pair, but they never slipped on me.” – Mark C.
- “Grip is solid, and they last forever. Plus, they squeak at lower pressures.” – Charles D.
