The S&M Shredneck stem is a front load BMX stem designed for riders who want a clean, simple, and strong setup.
CNC-machined in the USA from 6061-T6 aluminum, this front load BMX stem balances durability and weight reduction with a hollow center section to keep things light.
The Shredneck Sstem features a pretty standard reach, slightly less drop, and a refined look compared to its predecessor.
It’s a great option for park, street, and transition riders.
An all-around stem? Of course!
A 7mm rise and 50mm reach provide a lower front-end feel, making barspins, spins, and technical moves feel more dialed.
(Hint: the stem is inverted-friendly, too!)
However, if you’re looking for a front load that will improve barspins even further, then pick a 48mm reach stem.

S&M Shredneck Frontload BMX Stem Review
1. Shredneck Stem Design & Build Quality

The S&M Shredneck stem use 6061-T6 aluminum as a base, ensuring a solid build that can handle hard impacts.
The hollowed-out center section reduces weight without compromising strength, keeping your setup light but (extremely) durable.
One of the standout features is the engraved S&M logo on the side and faceplate, adding a classic, refined touch.

I really like the minimalism of this stem, regardless of which color you opt for.
The recessed compression bolt area helps give your setup a cleaner look while keeping everything tight and secure.
The classic 6-bolt clamping system ensures your bars stay locked in place, even under the heaviest riding conditions.

- CNC-machined 6061-T6 aluminum: Lightweight, durable, and built to last.
- Front load design: Provides a low-profile look with a lower front-end feel.
- Hollow center section: Reduces weight while maintaining strength.
- 50mm reach & 7mm rise: Perfect solution for all-around shredding, street, park and trails.
- Engraved S&M logos: Adds a clean, stylish touch.
- 6-bolt clamping system: Ensures maximum bar and fork security.
- Made in the USA: High-quality craftsmanship from the S&M factory.
- You can ride it inverted: But for me, the inverted Shredneck stem doesn’t look good.
3. How The S&M Shredneck Stem Rides

The S&M Shredneck stem offers a low and clasic feel that’s great for tech riders, big drop riders, transition riders, you name it.
The 50mm reach provides a balanced blend of stability and quick handling, while the 7mm rise keeps the front end low and controlled.
The front load design also keeps your cockpit looking sleek and dialed.
While this stem may not be the best for riders looking for a higher-rise topload feel, it’s perfect for those who prefer a low, technical setup.

Still, according to S&M, you can actually ride this one inverted (gives you 24.75mm rise), but from my experience, it looks super weird.
Note: I recommend the S&M Enduro stem if you want a higher rise.

- “Super clean and simple. Love how low it keeps my bars, and the machining is flawless. I love the “sharpie” logo.” – Dennis R.
- “I mainly ride technical street and this stem works like a dream. Plus, I’ve never had my Perfect 10 bars slip with this stem.” – Jerry C.
- “Lightweight, strong, and just looks sick. Everything I need in a front load stem!” – Peter D.

6. S&M Shredneck Stem Cons
- Only one reach option (50mm). If you like shorter (48mm-ish) or longer, you’ll need a different stem.
- Flip-friendly, but can confuse people. A 7mm rise upright or a 24.75mm inverted setting means you’ll probably do a little tinkering to get it feeling perfect. But really, I don’t like the Shredneck’s inverted look. I’d rather use spacers or get a top load stem, like the Enduro stem.
Conclusion: Is The S&M Shredneck Stem Worth It?

Note: The packaging says the stem includes a 6mm Allen key, but S&M no longer includes it. (It looks like it’s still old packaging.)
The S&M Shredneck stem is one of the best options for a low-profile, lightweight, and rock-solid frontload stem.
Its precise machining, simple design, and strong clamping power make it perfect for riders who want to rely on their stem 100%.
This stem delivers a responsive feel without sacrificing durability for street, park, and transition riders who love to ride a little bit of everything.
But even if you’re focused only on street, only on park, or only on transition riding, Shredneck will still do the trick.
While it’s not for those who want a high-rise front end (unless you like the inverted look of a Shredneck – I don’t), it’s one of the top front load stem solutions currently available on the market.
