How To Make Your 48mm BMX Stem Last Longer
Treat your 48mm reach stem with care, and it’ll hold up session after session, keeping your rides smooth and worry-free!
A little care goes a long way to keep it performing like a champ.
Here are my top tips to make your stem last longer:
1. Check Your Bolts Regularly
Loose bolts can lead to slipping bars or even damage.
Give them a quick check before your sessions and tighten as needed.
Don’t overtighten, though – a torque wrench can help you hit the sweet spot without stripping the threads.
Important: Always tighten all stem bolts evenly.
2. Keep It Clean
Dirt and grime can sneak into the clamp area, reducing grip and potentially causing issues.
After a few sessions, take a moment to wipe down your stem and remove any buildup.
A clean stem is a happy stem.
3. Inspect For Cracks Or Wear
Your stem takes a beating if you’re hitting big tricks or heavy landings.
Make it a habit to inspect it for cracks, stress marks, or other signs of wear.
Catching these early can save you from a bad day mid-ride.
Note: From my experience, cold-forged stems aren’t as tough as the traditional CNC machined ones are. (But the former are way more affordable.)
