For instance, if you wear ankle guards to protect your ankle bones, Style 114s might allow you to drop them and feel lighter on the bike.
The shoes got the classic Vans sidestripe and iconic skate-shoe vibe, but beefed up for BMX abuse.
Built with a mix of suede, 10 oz canvas, and mesh uppers, these Vans BMX shoes look tough while keeping the Vans heritage alive.

Plus, these insoles almost eliminate heel bruises. I haven’t gotten one in over five years riding Vans’s PopCush insoles!

However, I do ride slightly thinner socks during hot summer days.

4. Performance On The Bike
The VDFPR rubber compound really sticks to pedals.
When I combined them with a pair of fresh Cult Dak pedals, I almost couldn’t believe how insanely grippy the shoes are.
Almost TOO grippy, to be honest.
Pedal feel is dialed, giving you full control without slipping out.
The Vans BMX Style 114 shoes are stiff enough to provide stability but flexible enough to let you move naturally on the bike.
They might feel a bit tough in the first and second sessions, but they break in nicely after that.
Landings feel more controlled, and ankle support is noticeably better than in Old Skools or Eras.
Compared to Half Cabs, the Style 114 feels more purpose-built for BMX.
Meaning, less of a skate shoe, more of a rider’s tool.
I even saw plenty of MTB riders ride these!

The Style 114s work amazingly well as everyday shoes, too.
