2027 Kink Downside BMX Bike Review – No Joke!
1. Kink Downside Bike Design & Build Quality

The Kink Downside BMX Bike is constructed with a 100% 4130 chromoly frame, fork, and bars. This quality trio ensures maximum durability without unnecessary weight.
But there’s more.
The butted & tapered fork legs add to the bike’s stiffness and responsiveness, helping it handle technical tricks and heavy landings with ease.
One of the standout features is the TruTherm heat-treated Kink Foundry bars, which increase strength while maintaining a lightweight feel.
Combined with the 48mm Kink Brute stem, these bars provide a rock-solid front-end setup that won’t flex under pressure.
Note: A shorter stem does help with barspins.
Last but not least, the Deep Purple paint job gives the bike a subtle yet eye-catching look, making it stand out from the crowd.

3. How Kink Downside Bike Rides & Performs

The Kink Downside BMX bike delivers a fast, responsive ride while maintaining just enough stability, so you can use it for tech tricks and burly riding.
The 20.75” toptube, 75-degree head tube angle and 12.75” chainstay length make the bike easy to control while allowing quick spins and precise maneuvers.
Also, the 25mm fork offset is a nice balance that supports front wheel tricks without being too responsive.
The Mission Pace freecoaster hub makes fakie tricks feel effortless, and the Mission Mylar double-wall rims ensure your wheels can handle the impact of street riding.
The Kink Wake 2.45” tires add extra comfort and grip (even at lower PSI), keeping the bike locked in during grinds, rail rides, turns, and landings.

And with 4 included plastic pegs and hub guards, the Downside is 100% street-ready out of the box.

- “This bike is dialed straight out of the box. The geometry is super responsive, and the freecoaster makes fakie tricks feel so smooth. Loving the included 4 pegs and hub guards!” – James C.
- “I ride a lot of plaza setups and curbs, and the Downside is perfect for tech tricks. The short CS feel makes manuals and spins easier, and the tires grip amazingly well.” – Alexander C.
- “The bike is strong, handles well, and has everything I need for street and park riding. The only thing I adjusted was dropping the front end height slightly by adding a 3mm spacer.” – Catherine K.
- “I’m a smaller dude so the geometry feels perfect, semi-stable, and the pegs and freecoaster make it super fun for mixing in tech lines.” – Patrick D.
Note: The above reviews are from riders using the previous year’s model.

The only thing I’m surprised Kink did is put a 9.5″ rise bar on this bike. It already has a top load stem and a high rise spacer.
I’m mainly saying this because it has a 20.75″ top tube, so the bike isn’t meant for taller riders by default.
But if the front end feels too tall, you can easily lower it by replacing the existing spacer with a much lower one.
6. Kink Downside Frame Geometry, Sizing & Pricing

- Toptube length: 20.75”
- Chainstay length: 12.75”
- Headtube angle: 75°

- Standover height: 9.25”
- Recommended rider height: 5’6″ – 6′
- Price: $799.99
7. Kink Downside BMX Bike Cons
- Only one top tube size (20.75”). That’s awesome for many riders, but not ideal if you’re shorter and want something more compact or taller and need something more roomy.
- Freecoaster isn’t for everyone. The Downside comes with a Mission Pace sealed freecoaster. Great for fakies, but some riders hate the lag and prefer cassette feel.
- A lot of the parts are “good complete parts,” not high-end aftermarket. You’re getting a bunch of Mission stuff (wheels/hubs/brake/pegs), which is solid… but it’s not the same level as top-shelf aftermarket builds.
