4. Odyssey Vandero Pro Front Hub

I was riding the Odyssey Vandero Pro front hub for many (MANY) years before I finally replaced it. (I only replaced it because I really like matching front and BMX rear hubs.)
While the original Vandero hub was already popular, the Pro version takes things to the next level.
It’s a female version, which I also really like for the front hub. It has a 17mm aluminum axle with steel thread inserts for 10mm chromoly bolts to tighten securely.
Another perk of the Vandero Pro are the included plastic hub guards that you can replace any time.
Note: Don’t forget to read my in-depth Odyssey Vandero Pro front hub review to get more details.
Odyssey Vandero Pro hub specs:
- Weight: 11.3oz (320.3g)
- Price: $96.99
5. G-sport Roloway Front Hub

I still don’t really know why but G-sport’s Roloway hubs (back, too!) are one of the best-looking hubs in my opinion.
Maybe because they have a little larger shell, but not bulky. But this is all on purpose – to make the hub stronger and perform better.
It has a 20mm aluminum axel (other hubs have 17mm or 14mm) with steel inserts to fit 10mm female bolts.
Different (cool) colors are available with two plastic guards for all you street shredders.
Note: Here’s my comprehensive GSport Roloway front hub review.
G-sport Roloway hub specs:
- Weight: 12oz (340.2g)
- Price: $89.99
6. Cinema FX Front Hub

Cinema team consists of a bunch of heavy-hitters who tested the FX front hub vigorously.
And if it handles dudes like Reynolds, Nathan Williams and Dakota Roche, this thing must be a beast.
Which it is!
Cinema created their BMX front hub from scratch, using a 15mm inner chromoly axel, to achieve the long-lasting effect.
And you can grind comfortably with two included CF nylon hubs, protecting the hub and the spokes.
And don’t forget about my Cinema FX front hub review, where I share more details.
Cinema FX hub specs:
- Weight: 11.9oz (337.4g)
- Price: $89.99
7. Animal Sherman Front Hub (Tank!)

Animal Bikes’ Sherman front hub takes the classic flangeless look and updates it for modern street riding.
Even though it’s “new” to most riders, Animal has been testing prototypes for years and has put this thing through proper abuse before releasing it.
The shell is a 7075 aluminum flangeless design, but it still uses standard J-bend spokes that lace from the inside and line up nicely for a strong build.
It’s meant to be laced 4-cross only, with 192mm spokes recommended, so it’s not a “lace it however” hub.
Animal also fixed the usual old flangeless hub problems by using a hardened 17mm chromoly female axle with a shoulder stop, which helps prevent that annoying axle movement and mushrooming.
You get sealed bearings and 3/8” chromoly female bolts for a clean, solid setup.
Both sides come with replaceable nylon hub guards, which is exactly what you want if your front wheel sees pegs and ledges and rails.
Add the Animal Tank badge, and you’ve got a simple, tough front hub that’s built to handle heavy street sessions without drama.
Animal Sherman hub specs:
- Weight: 13.9oz (394.1g)
- Price: $159.99
8. Profile Elite Front Hub (Lightweight!)

But if you’re looking exclusively for a made in USA BMX front hub then I couldn’t recommend the Profile Elite more.
Even though this one is on the pricey side, you’re supporting the craft and a legendary BMX brand – Profile!
The hub comes in 7+ colors, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
One of the core difference between the Elite hub and others on this list are the allen key bolts.
I wouldn’t necessarily suggest using this one with pegs (it’s harder to tighten it through a peg, or at least I haven’t seen a proper tool yet), but it’s still possible.
Note: You can even upgrade the hub with titanium bolts and axle.
I also share more insights in my extensive Profile Racing Elite hub set review.
Profile Elite hub specs:
- Weight: 7.19oz (203.8g)
- Price: $115.99

Here are a few of my recommendations if you’re looking for solid front hubs for your race rig:
FAQs About BMX Front Hubs
What size is BMX front hub axle?
All BMX front hubs come with a 3/8″ (10mm) axle, usually a female version. There were 14mm versions in the past, but no longer exists.
What is the difference between sealed & unsealed BMX front hubs?
Sealed hubs have cartridge bearings that are protected from dirt and moisture, offering smoother operation and less maintenance. Unsealed hubs, with loose ball bearings, are more affordable but require more upkeep.
Can I install pegs on any BMX front hub?
Yes, you can easily install pegs on your front hub. Just ensure the pegs are compatible with the 10mm axle. (Some pegs come with 14mm holes but include a 10mm adapter for the front wheel.)
How many spokes do BMX front hubs have?
Most use 36 holes for standard wheel builds, though some race hubs may use 28 or 32 holes for lighter setups.
Are female axles stronger than male axles?
Female axles are often stronger and cleaner because the bolts thread into the hub itself, while male axles use external nuts.
Do BMX front hubs affect weight much?
Yes. Lighter hubs can make the front end feel more responsive, but heavier hubs add strength, which is important for riders who grind a lot.
Do all BMX front hubs fit hub guards?
Not always. Some come with built-in guards, while others need brand-specific or universal guards for grind protection.
