I’ve talked to nearly two dozen dudes out there who ride them, and not a single complaint.

In fact, two dudes (thanks, Mike and Patrick!) told me they’ve been riding them for nearly four years. And they are hitting parks and streets regularly.

Yup, these cranks sure are highly reliable, regardless of how hard you shred.

Odyssey Thunderbolt Cranks Review

1. First Impressions Of The Thunderbolt Cranks

odyssey thunderbolt cranks review

The Thunderbolt cranks immediately stand out because of their wedge-tightening system, eliminating the dreaded crank wobble.

If you’ve ever dealt with loose cranks mid-session, you know how frustrating that can be.

Not here.

The 41-Thermal processed 4130 chromoly makes these some of the strongest cranks available.

That means you can send it without worrying about snapping a crank arm mid-180 – heck, 540! – down a stair set.

I’ve also asked all the dudes about installation, and only one said it’s been a bit challenging to put them together.

But I think that’s with all cranks.

I know I had 48 spline cranks that came together without hammering them and there were others that it took me quite some time to install them.

However, I find Thunderbolts very effortless to install.

Some of the pros that ride Thunderbolt cranks: Corey Walsh, Brett Silva, Broc Raiford and Boyd Hilder.

2. Features That Matter

odyssey thunderbolt cranks features

  • No-wobble wedge system: The genius behind the Thunderbolt cranks is how the arms interface with the spindle. Customer feedback proves it – NO movement, even after years of heavy riding.
  • Super strong chromoly construction: Odyssey’s 41-Thermal treatment ensures insane durability, and they back it up with a lifetime replacement warranty. Who does that?
  • Updated spindle cap & flexibility: The open-ended cap and wedge cluster band make installation smoother than ever.
  • Multiple length options: Whether you prefer 165mm, 170mm, or 175mm, there’s a size for your style.

However, honestly, I wish these were also available in the 160mm cranks arm length option.

Yes, because that’s the length I prefer.

3. Real-World Rider Feedback On The Thunderbolt Cranks

I wasn’t the only one hyped on these cranks.

Plenty of riders have been putting them to the test, and the feedback is solid.

Jacob’s been running them for two years straight without a single issue.

The wedge system? Bulletproof. No wobble, no drama. Just rock-solid performance.

Tim straight-up says these are the strongest cranks he’s ever had.

He’s throwing crankarm grinds, heavy drops, and even dirt jumps at them, and they still refuse to quit.

If you’re worried about installation, only one rider, used to 48-spline cranks, said there’s a slight learning curve, but once he got it, he never went back.

Then there’s Will who stripped out a couple of other cranks (even Shadows!) just from riding dirt jumps, but the Thunderbolts? Still flawless.

He also mentions that if you love pedal grinds and stalls, these might be your new best friend.
