Best BMX Gifts For Kids & Young Riders

1. BMX Gift Card (The Best!)

dans comp gift card

A BMX gift card might not sound like the most exciting gift at first.

But honestly?

For a kid who rides BMX, it might be the smartest gift of all. I’d be excited about it even today!

BMX riders can be picky. And I don’t mean that in a bad way.

Sizes matter. Colors matter. Brands matter. Bike compatibility matters. Even something as simple as grips, pedals or tires can be the wrong pick if you don’t know the rider’s setup.

Friendly Reminder: Save BIG On Dan's Comp! (Click Banner ⬆️)

That’s why a Dan’s Comp gift card makes so much sense.

It lets the kid choose what they actually want, whether that’s new grips, pedals, tires, safety gear, tools, clothes or even money toward a bigger bike upgrade.

I especially like this as a gift if you’re buying for a young rider, but don’t know exactly what BMX parts fit their bike.

Gift cards are available in multiple amounts, so you can keep it small or go bigger.

  • Best for: Any young BMX rider
  • Why it’s awesome: They get to pick the exact BMX gear they want
  • Watch out for: It may feel less personal, so pair it with stickers, grips or a small BMX item if you want something physical to hand over
  • Price: $10+

2. BMX Inner Tube (Get 2)

dans deluxe bmx inner tube

Flat tires are session killers.

One minute, the kid is riding, learning tricks, and having fun.

The next minute?

Bike on the ground. Session over. Everyone annoyed.

That’s exactly why a spare BMX inner tube is one of those “boring but brilliant” gifts.

The Dan’s Comp Deluxe BMX inner tube is an excellent choice for young freestyle riders running wider 20″ tires.

No, it’s not the gift that gets the loudest reaction when unwrapped.

But the first time a flat happens, and there’s a fresh tube ready to go, it suddenly becomes legendary. (And they’ll definitely remember you and thank you in their mind for gifting them that inner tube.)

I’d especially add this as a small extra gift with grips, pedals, a multi-tool or a gift card.

  • Best for: Kids riding 20″ freestyle BMX bikes
  • Why it’s awesome: Cheap, useful and can save a ride
  • Watch out for: Check the tire size first because BMX tubes are not one-size-fits-all
  • Price: $4.99

Hint: If you want to be really cool, then I recommend getting the Tubolito Tubo BMX inner tube.

3. BMX Grips

sm hoder grips

Few BMX gifts hit that sweet spot like a fresh pair of grips.

They’re affordable.

They’re useful.

They make the bike feel better right away.

And for a young rider, that fresh grip feeling can be more exciting than non-riders realize.

The S&M Hoder grips are a great pick because they’re soft, comfortable and a little thicker than many standard BMX grips.

That’s especially nice for kids who ride a lot, jump curbs, hit skateparks or are starting to learn tricks.

I also like that these are Mike Hoder’s signature grips, made in the USA by ODI, which adds some extra BMX credibility to the gift.

Plus, grips are a fun way to freshen up a bike without spending much.

  • Best for: Kids who want their bike to feel fresh and more comfortable
  • Why it’s awesome: Soft, thicker and easy to get excited about
  • Watch out for: These are a bit bigger, so very young riders with tiny hands may prefer thinner grips (check out Cult Heaven’s Gate grips)
  • Price: $11.95

Note: For more info, read my extensive S&M Hoder grips review.

4. BMX Pedals

odyssey twisted pro pc pedals

Slippery pedals are no fun.

Especially when a kid is learning bunny hops, manuals, jumps, 180s or just riding harder around the neighborhood.

The Odyssey Twisted Pro PC pedals are a great BMX gift because they give the rider more grip, a wider platform and a fresh look.

They use a plastic composite body, which I’d usually recommend for kids over metal ones.

Plastic pedals are lighter, cheaper and a little less brutal when the inevitable shin hit happens. And yes, pedal bites still suck, but metal pedals can be next-level evil. Trust me, my shins experienced it all.

The Twisted Pro version has a larger body, with 12 molded pins per side for grip, chromoly spindles and a slimmer profile. So the kid gets a solid pedal without going overboard.

This is also a fun gift because pedals come in many colors, making it easy to match them with grips.

  • Best for: Kids who need more grip or want to freshen up their bike
  • Why it’s awesome: Affordable, grippy and available in fun colors
  • Watch out for: These are 9/16″ pedals, so make sure the kid’s cranks use standard 9/16″ pedal threads (most modern BMX bikes do)
  • Price: $19.99

Note: I also created an in-depth Odyssey Twisted Pro PC pedals review if you need more info.

5. BMX Chain

shadow interlock half link chain

Broken chains are the worst.

And for a kid who’s starting to pedal harder, hop higher or pull tricks with more commitment, a stronger BMX chain makes a big difference.

The Shadow Conspiracy Interlock V2 is one of the most trusted BMX half link chains ever made.

I’ve been riding Interlocks for years, and I still think they’re one of the best upgrades you can put on a freestyle BMX bike.

What makes this chain special is the half-link design.

It’s strong, reliable and also helps with getting the rear wheel in a better position because it allows for finer chainstay adjustment.

That’s awesome if the kid is picky about how their bike feels. Or if they’re slowly becoming that picky. Which happens fast in BMX.

This is definitely a more “serious rider” gift, but a really good one.

For more ins and outs, read my Shadow Interlock chain review.

  • Best for: Kids who ride harder, break parts or want a stronger bike
  • Why it’s awesome: Strong, trusted and helps dial in the rear wheel position
  • Watch out for: You’ll need the right chain breaker to install it
  • Price: $49.99

6. BMX Ankle Guards

old bones therapy compression ankle sleeve

Ankles take a beating in BMX.

Pedal slips, awkward landings, crank hits, long sessions – it all adds up, especially once a young rider starts pushing harder.

It’s the second-worst pain, right after getting hit in the shins.

That’s where the Old Bones ankle sleeves come in.

It’s not a bulky ankle brace or a full-on impact guard.

Instead, it gives the ankle light support and compression while still staying slim.

I like this as a BMX gift because it’s useful for riders who deal with sore ankles, want a little extra support, or just like feeling more secure when riding.

Getting BMX ankle braces/guards can also be a smart pick for kids who ride a lot and need something for recovery between sessions.

  • Best for: Kids who want light ankle support or recovery help
  • Why it’s awesome: Slim, supportive and easy to wear while riding
  • Watch out for: It’s sold as a single sleeve, so grab two if the rider needs both ankles covered. Also, try to figure out what size would fit the kid best (likely M or L)
  • Price: $40.00

7. BMX Tires (Get 2)

cult vans tire

Fresh tires can completely change how a BMX bike looks and feels.

And the Cult Vans tire is one of those upgrades kids can get properly hyped about.

The tread is based on the classic Vans waffle pattern, which gives it that unmistakable BMX/skate look while still being grippy enough for everyday riding.

It also has a tightly packed center tread and high-pressure sidewalls to help it roll nicely without feeling too sluggish.

This 20″ x 2.4″ version is a great pick for freestyle BMX bikes, especially for kids riding street, skateparks, pump tracks, or just cruising around the neighborhood.

I also like that this BMX tire comes in a bunch of color options, so it can be a fun style upgrade, too.

Need more info? Don’t miss my extensive Cult X Vans tire review.

  • Best for: Kids riding 20″ freestyle BMX bikes
  • Why it’s awesome: Great-looking tire with solid grip and multiple color options
  • Watch out for: This is the 20″ x 2.4″ size, so make sure the bike has enough clearance
  • Price: $34.99

8. BMX Multi Tool

odyssey travel tool

Loose bolts have a special talent for showing up at the worst possible time.

Right before a session.

At the skatepark.

Or when the kid is already halfway across town.

That’s why the Odyssey 8-in-1 Travel Tool is such a useful BMX gift. It’s small, easy to carry and built specifically around the tools BMX riders actually need.

This little tool includes multiple Allen keys, a 15mm pedal wrench, a 17mm deep socket and spoke wrenches, all packed into a compact setup that fits in a backpack without taking over the whole bag.

I like this gift because it helps young riders become more independent with their bike. (And help their riding buddies!)

They can tighten bars, adjust their seat, check their wheels, snug up pedals and fix small issues before they turn into session-ending problems.

  • Best for: Kids who ride to spots, skateparks or school
  • Why it’s awesome: Compact BMX tool with everyday-use features
  • Watch out for: It doesn’t replace a full toolbox, but it’s awesome for quick fixes on the go
  • Price: $49.99

9. BMX Pegs (Get 2 or 4)

odyssey joystick peg

Grinding is one of the most exciting parts of BMX once a kid starts getting into street or skatepark riding.

And adding a peg can open up a whole new world of tricks.

The Odyssey Joystick PC peg is a great pick because it uses a plastic sleeve over an aluminum core, which keeps it smooth on ledges and rails without feeling overly heavy.

Plastic pegs are usually my favorite choice for younger riders because they slide well, are quieter than metal pegs and are friendlier to many skatepark surfaces.

This 4.5″ version is long enough for modern riding and works with 14mm axles, while adapters are included for 3/8″ axles. That makes it more flexible for different BMX setups.

You might also be interested in reading my Odyssey Joystick PC peg review, where you can find heaps more info.

  • Best for: Kids who want to learn grinds or add more street-style tricks
  • Why it’s awesome: Smooth plastic sleeve, light feel and modern 4.5″ length
  • Watch out for: Only buy pegs if the kid actually wants to grind, and check whether they need one, two or four
  • Price: $22.99

10. BMX Backpack

kink rambler backpack

Riding to the skatepark with random stuff stuffed in your pockets gets old fast.

Phone.

Wallet.

Water.

Tools.

Extra tube.

Maybe a snack, because kids somehow burn through energy in five minutes.

The Kink Rambler backpack gives young riders a proper place to carry their session essentials without needing a huge travel bag.

I like this as a BMX gift because it’s useful on and off the bike. The kid can use it for school, riding with friends, skatepark missions, pump track days, or weekend trips.

And because it’s from Kink, it still feels BMX enough. Not like some random backpack picked from the school aisle.

  • Best for: Kids who ride to spots, skateparks, school or friends’ houses
  • Why it’s awesome: Useful for carrying tools, water, snacks and small BMX extras
  • Watch out for: It’s not a replacement for a full gear bag if the kid needs to carry a helmet, pads and shoes
  • Price: $64.99
GET KINK RAMBLER BACKPACK NOW!

11. BMX Cable Lock

kryptonite cable lock

Leaving a BMX outside unlocked?

NOPE.

Even if it’s only for “one minute,” that one minute can turn into a very bad day.

The Kryptonite KryptoFlex 1018 combination cable lock is a solid gift for kids who ride to school, the skatepark, a friend’s house, or the local shop.

It gives them a simple way to lock up their bike without having to carry keys.

The 6-foot cable length is also handy because it gives enough room to wrap around the frame, wheel and a bike rack.

I like combo locks for younger riders because there’s no tiny key to lose at the worst possible time. They just need to remember the code. And yes, maybe write it down somewhere safe because kids and memory can be a hilarious combo.

This is more of a casual lock, though.

It’s great for quick stops and lower-risk areas, but I wouldn’t trust cable locks overnight or in sketchy spots.

  • Best for: Kids who ride to school, parks, shops or friends’ houses
  • Why it’s awesome: Easy to use, no keys needed and long enough for everyday locking
  • Watch out for: Cable locks are not the strongest option, so don’t use it for long-term or overnight bike security
  • Price: $25.49
GET KRYPTONITE CABLE LOCK NOW!

12. BMX Floor Pump

pedros professional floor pump

Low tire pressure can make a BMX bike feel terrible.

Slow.

Squishy.

Harder to hop.

And way more likely to pinch flat.

That’s why a proper floor pump is such a good gift, especially if the kid rides a lot and the family doesn’t already have one at home.

The Pedro’s Super Prestige floor pump is a higher-quality option with a stable base, comfortable handle and easy-to-read gauge, so checking tire pressure becomes quick instead of annoying.

I like this gift because it helps young riders build a simple but important habit: checking tire pressure before riding.

It’s also useful for the whole family, not just the BMX kid.

  • Best for: Kids who ride often and families without a good pump at home
  • Why it’s awesome: Helps keep BMX tires properly inflated and ready to ride
  • Watch out for: This is more of a home/garage gift, not something the kid will carry to the skatepark
  • Price: $70.99
GET PEDRO’S FLOOR PUMP NOW!

13. BMX Grind Wax

merritt graffiti grind wax

Wax is one of those small BMX gifts that feels way more exciting once the kid starts grinding.

It’s cheap.

It’s fun.

And it can turn a sticky ledge into something that actually slides.

The Merritt Graffiti Grind Wax is a cool little gift for youngsters who are learning feeble grinds, double pegs, smiths, icepicks or anything peg-related.

I like it because it’s simple and BMX-specific. Not just a random candle stolen from the kitchen. Although, let’s be honest, many of us have been there.

This is also a great add-on gift with pegs, a backpack, stickers or a gift card.

Just keep in mind, BMX wax is only useful if the kid actually grinds or wants to start grinding. If they only ride pump tracks, dirt jumps or cruise around, they probably won’t use it much.

  • Best for: Kids learning grinds or riding street/skatepark spots
  • Why it’s awesome: Cheap, fun and helps ledges/rails slide better
  • Watch out for: Teach them not to wax everything like a little menace
  • Price: $11.99
GET MERRITT GRIND WAX NOW!

14. BMX Tire Wedgie

bmx tire wedgie

Getting the rear wheel straight on a BMX bike can be weirdly frustrating.

You tighten one side.

Then the other side moves.

Then the tire rubs.

Then the chain tension feels off.

And suddenly, a “quick adjustment” turns into a mini battle with your bike.

The Wooder x Dan’s Comp Tire Wedgie is a clever little tool that helps hold the rear wheel straight while tightening everything down.

Chain tension, tire clearance and how the bike feels can all be affected if the wheel sits crooked.

I like this as a gift for kids who are starting to work on their own bike, or for parents who help with small BMX adjustments at home.

Fewer crooked wheels = fewer “WHY IS MY TIRE RUBBING?!” moments.

  • Best for: Kids or parents who work on BMX bikes at home
  • Why it’s awesome: Helps keep the rear wheel straight while tightening it
  • Watch out for: This is more of a maintenance tool, so it’s best for riders who already care about keeping their bike dialed
  • Price: $34.99
GET BMX TIRE WEDGIE NOW!

15. BMX Energy Bar

clif bar original

Long BMX sessions can drain a kid fast.

One moment, they’re full of energy.

Then suddenly they’re sitting on the floor, hungry, tired and somehow still saying, “one more try.”

That’s why throwing a few CLIF Bars into a backpack is a pretty solid BMX move.

The Chocolate Chip Peanut Crunch flavor is easy to snack on before, during or after riding, especially on skatepark days, pump track missions, long summer sessions or weekend trips.

I like this as a BMX gift because it’s not bike-specific, but it still supports the riding lifestyle.

Kids need fuel.

Simple as that.

And having snacks ready can keep the session going instead of turning it into a “we need food now” emergency.

This pack comes with twelve 2.4oz bars, so it’s great for stocking up or adding to a bigger BMX gift bundle with a backpack, tube, tool or gift card.

  • Best for: Kids who ride long sessions, skateparks, pump tracks or weekend BMX trips
  • Why it’s awesome: Easy riding snack that helps keep energy up
  • Watch out for: It contains peanuts, so skip it if the kid has a nut allergy (check out other flavors!)
  • Price: $23.99
GET CLIF BARS NOW!

16. Bonus Big Gift: Beginner BMX Bike

kink whip 2027 bmx bike

Sometimes the best BMX gift isn’t another small part.

Sometimes it’s the whole bike.

The Kink Whip is the “big gift” on this list, and it’s one of the better complete BMX bikes for kids who are ready for something more serious.

This isn’t a cheap department-store bike with BMX stickers slapped on it.

The Whip has a full 4130 chromoly frame, fork and bars, sealed bearings, double-wall Mission Mylar rims, Kink Sever 2.4″ tires and a solid freestyle-ready parts package.

That’s a big deal because those are the things that help a BMX bike hold up when the rider starts jumping, learning tricks and riding harder.

The 20.5″ top tube is best for medium-sized riders, while taller kids may be better off with the Whip XL in 21″. So don’t guess the size here.

As a first “proper” BMX bike or a serious upgrade from a cheaper beginner setup, the Whip is an awesome pick.

If you’d like to learn more about this epic bike, I’ve created a comprehensive Kink Whip BMX bike review for your convenience.

  • Best for: Kids ready for a real freestyle BMX bike
  • Why it’s awesome: Full chromoly build, sealed bearings and strong double-wall rims
  • Watch out for: Make sure the 20.5″ top tube fits the rider before buying
  • Price: $549.99

What Makes A Good BMX Gift For Kids?

The best BMX gifts for kids aren’t always the biggest or most expensive ones.

They’re the ones the kid can actually use.

That’s the main thing.

A good BMX gift should fit the rider, match their bike and add something useful to their riding.

Maybe it helps them feel safer. Maybe it makes the bike more comfortable. Maybe it keeps the session going when something goes wrong.

That’s why simple gifts like grips, tubes, tools, pedals, snacks or a gift card can be way better than buying a random expensive part.

BMX bikes are specific.

Tire size matters.

Crank size matters.

Top tube size matters.

Even colors and brands can matter because, well… kids have opinions. Strong ones.

So if you don’t know the exact bike setup, don’t guess on size-specific parts like frames, forks, bars, wheels, cranks, tires or helmets.

Stick with safer picks, or go with a BMX gift card and let the rider choose what they really want.

BMX Gifts I’d Avoid For Kids

Not every BMX gift is a good one.

Some parts look cool online, but can turn into a headache fast, especially if you don’t know the rider’s bike setup.

I’d avoid random cheap BMX parts from unknown brands first. BMX bikes take abuse, and super cheap parts can wear out fast, fit poorly or even become unsafe.

I’d also be careful with frames, forks, bars, wheels and cranks unless you know the exact size and specs the kid needs. These are awesome upgrades, but they’re very personal. One wrong size and the gift becomes useless.

For beginners, I’d usually skip metal pedals too. They grip well, but they can be brutal when a foot slips. Plastic pedals are normally the better pick.

Pegs are another one I wouldn’t buy blindly. If the kid doesn’t grind yet, they might just add extra weight and get in the way.

Used helmets?

Hard pass.

You don’t always know if the helmet has already taken a hard hit, and that’s not something I’d risk.

Also, don’t buy safety gear without checking sizing first. Pads and BMX helmets only work well when they fit properly.

And finally, I’d avoid “BMX-looking” bikes from big-box stores if the kid actually wants to progress.

They may look the part, but once the riding gets more serious, they usually don’t hold up like a proper BMX bike.

My Advice Before Buying BMX Gifts For Kids

Before you buy anything BMX-related, try to find out what bike the kid rides.

Even a quick look at the bike can save you from buying the wrong thing. (Or reach out to the parent.)

Check the tire size if you’re thinking about tubes or tires.

Check helmet and pad sizing if you’re buying protection.

And if you’re buying something more specific, like cranks, wheels, bars, forks or a frame, don’t guess. Those parts need to match the rider and the bike.

Also, keep the receipt.

BMX kids can be choosy. And honestly, that’s fair.

Once you start riding more, you quickly learn what feels right and what doesn’t.

When you’re not sure, stick with easier gifts like soft goods, grips, pedals, stickers, wax, snacks, basic tools or a BMX gift card.

And if the kid already rides a lot, ask the parent for help or sneak a quick look at the current setup.

A tiny bit of checking before buying can turn a random gift into something the rider is actually stoked to use.

Conclusion: What’s The Best BMX Gift For Kids?

The best BMX gift for kids is the one they’ll actually use.

Not the one that only looks cool.

Not the one that almost fits.

And definitely not the one that turns into a “we need to return this” mission.

For me, the best overall useful gift is a BMX gift card because it lets the young rider pick exactly what they want.

But here are a few more quick helpful ideas:

  • The best budget gift is a fresh pair of BMX grips.
  • The best safety gift is knee pads, shin pads or ankle guards, depending on how and where the kid rides.
  • The best fun gift is BMX wax, especially if they’re starting to grind.
  • The best serious upgrade gift is a strong BMX chain.
  • And the best big gift is a proper beginner BMX bike, not a random bike-shaped object from a big-box store.

At the end of the day, a BMX gift doesn’t need to be expensive.

It just needs to fit the rider, work with their bike and help them enjoy riding even more.
